The day itself was a typical mid-Autumn day and not the least like the Gloucester winter we know and love. There were clear skies low to mid-twenties temperatures and a useful but not-too-chilling breeze.
The event was an Individual Stroke event in three grades sponsored by the Arkwood family. The medal itself, awarded to the best net score 'across-the-field', was won by Peter with a net score of 66, in the process picking up be the net score, 66, and gross score, 88, in C Grade.
In A grade, Paul Blanch also picked up the top net and gross trophies with his scores of 72 and 73 respectively. It was in B grade, where the net scores were not too flash with Peter Wildblood's very modest 75 'earning' him the net trophy; Doug Blanch's 91 was the best gross score in the grade.
The ball competition saw trophies go to Peter Markey 66, Paul Blanch 72, Stacey Groves, Steve Macdonald 73, Mark Stone 74 and Steve Burns, Ben Veitch and Peter Wildblood 75. Nearest-to-the-Pins were won by Nathan McInnes and Doug Blanch at the 4th and 13th holes. Steve Macdonald and Peter Markey were closest at the 6th and 15th holes while the NTP in two shots at the 9th holes was won by Nathan McInnes. The Long Drive at the 8th and 17th holes was won by Paul Coote.
Super Sevens for the week ending Friday June 4, was won by B Berthold with 17 points with balls won by Phil Patterson 16, Jim Dunn 15, Doug Blanch and M Young 14. Peter Markey needed a count back at 13 points to earn himself a ball; Saturday was obviously a far better day for him at least.
On Saturday June 12, it being the long weekend and all, Gloucester Golf Club are playing a novelty event - a Texas Shootout sponsored by Barlow brothers. No doubt all will be explained on the day, but rumour has it that it is not a lot dissimilar to an Irish Four Ball. The following week, Saturday June 19, there is the club's Foursomes Championships sponsored by Col Laurie and Roy Crichton.
