Over 120,000 lightning strikes were recorded during the recent thunderstorm in the MidCoast region.
According to Weatherzone, two storm fronts crossed over the region throughout the evening of Tuesday, January 9 focusing mainly on the Gloucester and Forster/Tuncurry areas.
While most of the total lightning strikes recorded between 7pm and 4am were between clouds, over 20,000 touched the ground in the 100 kilometre radius from Gloucester.

It was around 8pm when the lightning really started to kick into gear a spokesperson for Weatherzone said.
A spokesperson for the Mid North Coast State Emergency Service (SES) said 46 millimetres of rain was recorded to have fallen in Gloucester in 30 minutes, while Forster/Tuncurry recorded 35mm in the same amount of time during the storm.
Overall the SES received eight storm related call outs overnight across the MidCoast Council Local Government Area.
The three call outs in Gloucester were related to fallen trees, while the five call outs in Forster/Tuncurry also included some property damage.
